Jadavpur University is a public university situated in Kolkata, capital city of the Indian state of West Bengal. It is primarily a research university comprising of two campuses. The first one is at Jadavpur and the second one at Salt Lake.

State Government of West Bengal commissioned the university in the year 1955 with the hope of increasing the education levels of the residing population and to cater the increasing demand for higher education in the state.
