Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University is one of the institutes of excellence. This is known to be the first Open University in the north east zone of India. This is the Open University which was established with the declaration of Assam Legislative Assembly that had introduced 1995 acts for the university. But, the university for the first time got introduced to the nation in the year 2006 with it’s headquarter at Dispur under the jurisdiction of Assam.

Beside this, the university is even known to offer diploma and certificate programs for Tourism and Hospitality Management, Textile related industries, Petroleum related industries, Tea Management, Horticulture, Vermin Technology, Sericulture, Mushroom Production, ECG Technology, Radiography, Floriculture and marketing, Food processing and marketing, Hatchery management, Broiler farming, Layer farming, Piggery farming, Pisciculture, etc. The university received its approval from Distance education council in the year 2007 as well as UGC in the year 2009.
